Thread: Calf strain grade 2?

    Unhappy Calf strain grade 2?

I had a calf strain while playing tennis-- Was playing hard-- went into an acceleration to hit a drop shot and I felt my calf pop. Significant pain and had to limp off the court.

Later there was bruising on the calf and a little on the ankle

Have been doing R.I.C.E. and I felt better 24 hours later-- but still limping-- Now it is 72 hours and I feel a lot better.

Dose this sound like a grade 2 calf strain?

    Thanks in advance

    Yes, that sounds very possible.

You've been doing the right things with resting, ice etc. Your next step should be to gently stretch out the calf muscles. This shoud be pain free and just feel like a pull at the back of the calf. Ideally you should be stretching both gastrocnemius and soleus muscles.

You can find out how here:

You can also find out more about rehabilitation here:

Don't attempt to return to tennis until you can run, jump and bound completely pain free!
