    Default cycling injury

    hi

Just after some advice, I was hit by a car who cut the corner and wiped me out on sunday. i had a lucky escape considering it was a 20mph collision, Was a bit shocked but not injured at the time (by some miracle!). I went home swapped front wheels and got out on a ride again (3 hour ride). Rode yesterday 4 hours and today feel like my right calf muscle has been ripped in two! really sore and i guess bruised. even though bruising hasnt come out.

Its painful to touch and painful to walk on depending how i walk, surprisingly its not painful walking upstairs but is going down them!

any ideas to what ive done to my calf? is it just bruising? I am taking today off the bike and only doing 1 hour recovery ride tommorow. Its not excrutiatingly painful and could probably ride on it with a bit of pain. should i ride on it though? would/could it damage it more?

I am keen to get back to training as i am a fulltime cyclist and have a team training camp in two weeks time.

just after other peoples views and if anyone else has had anything similar? or could give me any advice, i am using Arnica.

    thanks

    Jake

    Hi,

You should avoid anything that causes pain! Don't ride if it hurts, rest it! I know this is hard to do when a sports is your life but its the only way to recover.

This is obviously very important to you and so I would recommend visit a specialist to assess you and see what the problem is.

In the meantime, stretch it gently (no pain!) and rest!

    Good luck!

thanks Heidi, going to visit doctor today just to make sure its nothing more serious before i get training again. Depending on outcome will hopefully be able to do an easy hour of low intensity riding later.
