    Default Exterior lower leg pain

For the past couple of years when ever I run I get pain in the outside of my lower legs, usally the left leg, that increases the longer I run. If I try to push through the pain my foot will start to tingle and eventually fall asleep. I have tried stretching, and doing calf and toe raises to strengthen my lower leg, but nothing seems to help.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The area where you describe the pain is probably the Peroneal muscles. These are a common problem in runners. They are involved in inversion and eversion movements (also known as supination/pronation). If these muscles are overworking it is probably due to either overpronation or oversupination, causing the muscles to tighten up and trigger points to develop.

My advice would be to visit a sports massage therapist for some treatment to the whole lower leg and also to get a gait analysis done to make sure you are wearing the right trainers.

Been there! I had the same pain as a college cross country runner and it is not fun! Read my story and see if you can related in any way:

Then check out Pain Free by Pete Egoscue as it will explain how to fix the underlying problem and not just treat the symptom (which will then return). Good luck!
