Default Foot going numb when running more than 3 miles

I am not in any pain, but when I run more than 3 miles at once my foot falls asleep. I've tried new shoes, I've tried getting a foot assessment from a running shoe store, My shoes are not tied too tight.

The numbness doesn't start at the beginning, just about 3 miles. It does seem to get worse the longer I run. If I stop and walk, the numbness does go away, just to pick back again when I start running.

I go see my family doctor tomorrow (8-27-09) and want to take something to him to think about.

Any suggestions I can suggest to him is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Bridgett

    Hi

You seem to have done all the things that are normally recommended initially with this kind of problem.

Numbness in the foot is due to nerve compression. So somewhere along the chain, this is happening. The difficulty is working out where.

Do you have any back, buttock or hamstring pain? Or even just a tight feeling? How is your flexibility in general? But especially the calf muscles, hamstrings and hip muscles?
