Default Severe pain when kicking football

Hello this is my first post. I am struggling to recover from an ankle injury suffered while playing football I received a bad tackle and I'm not rally sure which way my ankle turned but I had bad swelling around the whole ankle followed by bruising two days later. At the time of the injury I had to stop playing and could not bare weight for a day and minimal weight two days later. Now I am able to run twist hop but when it comes to kicking a ball with laces I get a sharp pain on the inside of ankle strong enough to make me unable to bare weight for a minute or so it has been four weeks since injury any ideas greatly appreciated

    Hi
This is a common complaint with a high ankle sprain: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/ankle/highankle.php
Not sure how long since your injury? But have you rested enough? Did you rehab it or get any professioanl assessment/treatment?

Hello Heidi thanks for the reply. I have rested for near on four weeks I saw a Physio who gave me some workouts to do because my balance was off but I can do all the stuff he has given me except for the short volleys of the football even a 5 metre volley is causing major pain on the inside of ankle and it has been four weeks since the injury been doing the workouts for one week every day. Do you think I can play Sunday it is a massive game and if so is there any taping technique that would get me through. Thanks again

Ideally you shouldn't play. A taping technique as found here may be helpful: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/strapping-and-taping/louisiana_wrap.php

I can't tell you for definate. It is probably a ligament which gets over stretched when you kick the ball. This position plus the weight/impact of the ball may do it.
