About 10 days ago I fell ice skating - caught a tip & went straight down. Ankle hurt a little but I continued skating, iced that evening, & skated again a couple days later. It was never swollen, but did develop large bruises on each side & felt a little sore/tender.

A few days ago, ~1 week after the fall, I started having severe pain in the ankle, & also in my leg. Calf pain like a charlie horse, shin pain on the outside, & a deep pain behind my knee & into the back of my thigh. The ankle seems to be the focus, & any ankle/foot movement except slow walking sets off pain all over the rest of the leg. It's gotten worse over the last 3 days, can't sleep or get comfortable even with ibuprofin & ice.

What did I do? I figured my ankle wasn't sprained because of no swelling & just minor pain at the time, but this recent severe leg pain is making it difficult to do anything at all. I'll try to get an appt at my regular clinic - might have to wait until next week because it's Friday.

Oh - I'm 62, moderately active woman. (Walking, aerobics, skating, etc. No running.) Lost some bone density but not taking any fosamax-like drugs.

Any ideas what it is & how to treat? Thanks a lot!
