    Default New guy, old injury...

    Hello everyone,
    Here's my ankle issue:

I've always had a week right ankle. As a kid I remember twisting it quite a few times, and I actually sprained it once in high school where I had crutches and an air cast. In recent years I've twisted it and fallen on it and it usually recovers in a week or two.

Last summer I fell on it harder than I ever remember... slid in a mud puddle and landed on it at full speed with all my weight. I did RICE and in a week or 2 it was all better. Around November, I was out running on the street in the morning and I got too close to the curb and tripped on it. It hurt pretty bad, but I walk/jogged back home, went to work, and did RICE when I got home.

Since then, my ankle has never been the same.

I didnt really run over the winter, so I didnt become aware of the problem until early February. I did jump rope and do jumping jacks and stuff, and noticed a little discomfort but nothing crazy until I actually ran. It felt uncomfortable running but it didnt hurt... it hurt about 3 hours later. I read about achilles tendonits and figured thats what I had. I stopped running for 4 weeks and stretched my achilles daily. The pain went away until I ran again.

I dont think it's my achilles. I can stand on my toes without feeling pain on the tendon... it's the ankle that hurts. It hurts on the outside, but the pain is INSIDE the ankle, not on the surface - know what I mean. There's also some clicking in there.

Thanks in advance for your help... any thoughts?

    Hi

With such a recurrent ankle injury its not surprising that you are now suffering. I would advise you to visit a sports injury professional to get a full assessment. There may have been more substantial damage than you first realised. Or it could just be a case of weakness in the muscles and ligaments supporting the ankle. Either way you definately need a good rehab program to improve the strength and balance to prevent this happening again.
