Default Pain in front and sides of ankle when walking

    Hi guys,

    I am a 30yr old male, overweight 15 stone 6 and 5ft 9.

I try to go for regular walks to try and get a bit fitter since giving up smoking after 15 years but I get some really bad pain after 3/4 of a mile.

My left ankle becomes really sore on the front of it and on the inside and outside to the point I am in agony and can't keep walking. It doesn't seem to want to bend forward to back properly and feels like it isn't my ankle!

I was walking in walking boots that I have had for years without any problems but my bro said to try different footwear so I tried my work boots and they were no good either. Since then I have tried 2 different types of trainers (not athletic type trainers though) and still no joy.

When I stop walking the pain goes after a few minutes and just normal day to dy activity doesn't hurt at all.

    Any suggestions out there?

    Thanks very much.

    Nick

    Hi
The most common problems which relate to your symptoms are overpronation and tight calf muscles.
I would advise that you get someone to look at your feet to determine if you need either trainers with arch support, or arch support insoles.
Another common problem with ankle and foot pain is having tight calf muscles. Try stretching these out regularly (3 times a day) and maybe getting some massage on them to loosen them.
