    Default Pain in my shins

I am 20 years old, in college, and play basketball. I put a tremendous amount of impact on my legs everyday. The season just ended recently, so I thought the pain in my shins would subside.
I know its not shins splints, cause I have had those before. I can play fine with just a little pain, its just when I sit out for a few minutes, the pain gets pretty bad. However, it doesn't cover my whole shins like shin splints, but just a localized point on the inside about 3 inches up from my ankle bone. I have a pretty high pain tollerance and I can play though it, but since its the off-season I want whatever it is to heal. The right side is a little worse, especially to touch. There's visible bruising on the right side now, but the left side had some visible bruising a few days ago?
Im confused about what it could possibly be?

    Any help? thanks

    Hi

I would visit a sports injury specialist to rule out a stress fracture. This is a common site for it to occur. Although both sides would be rare.
Other than that possible tendon inflammation. May be due to biomechanical issues with your feet (i.e. over-pronation/supination). Either way, if its on both sides and came on gradually its an overuse injury.

But still, if possible visit a specialist who can assess it fully and you can get some thorough treatment. Its well worth it in the long run if it means you can continue to play!

Great thoughts Heidi. I'm new here, but I know a little about sports medicine from past experiences and treatments. I would definitely visit a sports injury specialist just to get checked out. I actually had stress factures in the same area.

    Hi

Im a triathlete who took it too hard in the cross country running season and think I have developed stress fractures in a similar way. I am now preparing for an 8 week layoff according from most accounts. I have been told to stay off even aqua jogging, swimming and cycling. When would be a normal time to get back into these?

It was mentioned that it is uncommon in both sides? My problem sounds exactly the same. Is there anything else it could be?

    Will
