    Default Peroneal Injury. I think?

I play football and my peroneal muscle on my right leg got very tight one day and stayed that way for about a week and a half. The muscle felt like it was always flexed and was very tight all the time but only hurt sometimes mostly when i cut off my right foot to my left.

Then i rolled my ankle, while my peroneal was still tight, and i injured it. That night my leg got very swollen and as the days went on my ankle began to swell up and the top of my ankle all the way down to the top of my foot is numb(like it fell asleep). There was alot of pain the first few days but now it has went down but still hurts when i walk.

It has been a week since i injured it and my leg is still swollen, the muscle it still tight, the top of my foot and ankle is still numb, and now the side of my ankle is black and blue.

I think i injured my peroneal, whether i tore it or not i dont know, but i think i hurt it further up my leg and not so mush my ankle because the swelling is on top of the peroneal about 3 inches below my knee to my ankle.

What do you think i did? and what should i do? get an mri, or continue icing, compression and elevation

Did you get an X-ray? You should really have done this immediately following the injury to rule out any fractures. I would advise you to go to the Dr with a view of getting either an x-ray or an MRI.

In the mean time yes keep resting, ice, compression going. If you can do so painfree, try to keep the ankle mobile whilst non-weight bearing. Draw the alphabet with your toes, that kind of thing!

    Default Dead Thread

I know it's a dead thread but I was reading through and wanted to point out that X-rays will not show tissue damage, only bone. An MRI or CT scan will show tissue damage, which is what this person should have done immediately after the injury.

Yes you are right. However, with the health service being as it is and X-rays being cheaper they are normally used first to determine bony injuries. As this person rolled their ankle bony injury was a very real possibility. It is more likely that they would be sent for an x-ray first, then if this is negative and problems persist an MRI may be offered.
