Thread: peroneal problems..

    Default peroneal problems..

Basically I have been dieting the past few months and was doing regular early morning cardio on an incline. One morning I felt a twinge in the outside of my ankle and carried on.. Soon after I found it hard to walk for a few weeks. The pain then went away. About a month later I kept getting a really bad ache pain in the outside of my ankle, and my whole ankle joint appears to be extremely clicky and crunchy. I continued cardio using a bike which was ok for a while but now even that is causing pain so have stopped. I still have the pain and my peroneal tendon/muscle which runs up the back of my leg is tender. I have tried foam rolling, massage etc and it still hurts and the clicking just wont ease up its as if my ankle joint feels a bit looser.
Any ideas on what I can do to help? Would going to see a podiatrist be handy? Also im on my feet alot with work and wondered what the best insole for my shoes would be to take presser off the peroneal tendon.

    Hi
I think you are exactly on the right track. It does sound like a possible peroneal tendon injury. Foot biomechanics are a big cause of this injury.
Have you had an assessment? If not a gait analysis or a visit to a podiatrist are highly recommended.
I can't recommend any particular type of insoles unless you know what type of movement pattern you have in your foot.
Stretching the calf muscles several times a day, as well as some sports massage may allow you to continue non-weight bearing exercise in the meantime.
