    Default Help With Knee Injury!

Hi. i play soccer and i have this knee injury the last 8 months and cant seem loose it.i've had 2 mri scans which have all showed no damage to my knee.if i start running staight for ten or so min's i can feel a little lump on the outside of my knee trobbin and shortly after that i get a sharp pain (a pinch or a burn feeling) just a small bit further inside my knee from were the throbbin first started and the leg then gives way and i can no longer run. i can take the pinkiller nurfeine plus and get thru a soccer match without any problems but with out any painkillers i can only last 10-15 in a match. i hope u can help me find out what problem i have and how i can go about fixing it. thanks. hi, since my last post i have only started training again 4 weeks ago with the help of a knee brace on my injured knee,i have completed 6 two hour soccer training sessions and two full soccer match's .i've done all these with no set backs but only while i'm wearing the knee brace.in my last soccer match (17th of aug 09) while wearing the knee brace, towards the end the match i felt my knee going again ( everything i discribed in the above) i stopped playing.i went trainng to night and took part while wearing the knee brace, but after 15 mins of running my knee has gone again .....so i am back to square one again, can u please give me ur opinon. hopen 2 get a reply as i didnt to my first post. thanks, lar.

    Hi

Is it possible for you to visit a sports injury specialist? They would be able to assess whats happening at your knee.

If for whatever reason this is not possible, how about trying to strengthen the muscles around the knee and see what effect that has. Start off with exercises like shallow squats and lunges. Provided you can do these pain-free.

As for what might be causing the pain, it could be a number of things in this area. It sounds suspiciously like a lateral meniscus tear - although this would normally show up on an MRI. It might be a very small tear, or possibly obscured on the MRI. But this is why it is worth visiting a professional who can do some manual tests on your knee which would indicate (they can't be definitive) if this is the case.

I hope this is of some help. Good luck!

hi heidi, thanks for the reply,

During the last year i've been in the gym strengthen the muscles around my knee, ie lifting weights squats etc all pain free, all to no avail.. i would have no problems on the cross trainer in the gym or doing 30 mins on the bikes again all pain free. but as soon as i get on the treadmill after 15 or so mins my knee would go.

Just a few things i found odd was (1) that there was never any swealing on my knee (2) any time my knee went i could push the tip or my finger in a small bit just under my knee cap and touch the exact spot that has been causeing me the problems (3) if i was to sit up on a bench and leave both legs dangling and slightly let my left leg(injured knee) sway a bit in injury is very painfull.its like pinch inside my knee. any of these sound familer to u??

i'm goin to book apointment with a sports Docter, was trying to avoid this as it is very expensive. i hope u find the time to reply. thanks, Lar

    Hi

Another possibility is a synovial plica. These sometimes produce similar symptoms to cartilage tears and can come about with less force and may be more easilt missed on an MRI:

Its good that you have an appointment. I know that it can be expensive but as it has been this long and is still causing problems, I think its the only sensible way to go.
