Cool Knee cap no longer feels smooth.Any ideas?

Following a knee injury a few weeks back, my knee no longer feels smooth on touch like the other, instead like theres a crack in it, and kind of ridged-like. I dont think its a fracture because i can walk and everything fine, the only thing i cant do is kneel on my knee or apply too much pressure on touch or keep it bent for too long. So any possible ideas as to what the crack like feel may be? Ive had an mri just waiting on the results so hopefully that will ive me answers im just curious. Didnt have an xray because it was way to swollen at the time. so just waited to have an mri. Any suggestions much appreciated sorry to babble on by the way =] x

How did you hurt your knee? Was it a direct force on to the knee? Do you know what other damage was done?

Well initially back in march 2009 i went knee first into the wooden barriers at iceskating then fell straight on to the knee cap. And it hasnt been the same since. I never got it looked at though because i had exams i didnt want to miss so hobbled through it, and since then ive been unable to touch my knee too hard.

But then 3 weeks ago i fell directly onto it(it didnt give way ...just to add i just fell) and couldnt walk for about a week so got it looked at ... They couldnt see what damage had been done though because i couldnt physically let them touch the kneecap because of the pain. So i was sent for an MRI.

Sorry about the long explanation...i thought it would help...but yes direct force onto knee and not sure as to other damage..ligaments are definately fine though...just curious as to the crack-like feel.

Due to the mechanism of injury I would say that it is possible that you have fractured the patella. Although this is very difficult to tell without assessing or, a scan. You would be best to just wait until you get your scan results back.
