    Default Knee Help Anyone?

    Hi All

My name is John and i am new to this site and forum. In 2004 i had my first ACL reco. My doctor said that there was a small piece of cartlidge on the lateral side of my knee that he did not fix because due to the extra blood in the knee there was a 70+% chance that it wold fix itself. The ACL reco itself was a success however the cartlidge did not fix itself and i experienced instibility in the knee and actally went over on it 4 or 5 times once hearing a crack. Fearing the worst i went to a doc and he said the ACL was intact.

Finances and other factors have not let me get the knee fix until just recently. I now had 2 tears (one on either side of my knee). They were fixed but here comes the potential bombshell. The doc said to me that my graft is in tact but when he did the graft in 2004 it consisted of 4 strans. I only have 2 left.

He also said however that he tested the knee while i was under and it is stable and in 3-4 weeks i can be back doing whatever i wanted on my knee. He did not want to touch the ACL becase that would require another ACL reco and he had not dissucssed that with me etc and he didnt think i needed it, but you cant see into the future.

    What should i do?

On one instance i have an Orthopaedic surgon saying the knee is stable and can possibly last you the rest of your life there is no reason why your knee should fail as it is structurly sound now

    and on the other

I am an extremely sport orientated guy with a love for basketball, weights, and football and an ambition to return to them. And in my mind i have half torn my graft and only have 2 strans remaining.

    Help me please.

    John

    Hi
My advice would be to go with what the surgeon says. Plenty of really sporty people go without a reconstruction completely and still manage to play following a good rehab programme. If your knee is still stable with only 2 strands intact then that should be ok.
Maybe see a rehab professional for a programme and consider wearing a knee support, even if it's just to put your mind a ease.
