    Default Knee injury

Hi,last wednesday I was playing football, went to turn quickly and my leg decided not to participate in this movement, this resulted in a twist and a popping sound and feeling,i fell to the floor in agony and couldnt move my knee for around 30mins,i took a trip to a&e and had an xray, they said I have sprained it but could not explain the popping sound,my knee is still painful and feels it will give way sometimes,is this usual for a sprain or does it sound like it could be an anterior cruciate injury?

    Hi,

Does sound a lot like an ACL rupture yes. This is a common way for this injury to happen. My advice is to rest and ice the knee regularly to help the swelling go down. If the symptoms continue for more than a week, go to your Doctor who should be able to perform a simple test which will indicate if there is damage to the ACL. If he thinks there is then you should be sent for an MRI which will confirm this and show the extent of the damage.
