It may be a muscle imbalance problem.
Did you have a very gradual intro back to running?

yes,i am a serving member of the uk fire sevice and spent two weeks at a firefighter charity funded rehabilitation centre, doing lots of balance drills and exercise, swimming pool based drills, gentle intro on running machine, static bike.finished there then did gentle running/jog built upto 30 mins, outdoor bike where the problem seemed to start, and swimming drills no big distance, over a period of three weeks then the problems started and have done no exercise now for almost 4 weeks, only in the last 2 days have i began to feel an improvement in the knee, just worried that i may have had a recurrence of cartilage tear?
