    Default Knee swelling

About 8 months ago I sustained at least a grade 2 tear to my hamstring.

It feels healed now, however I still have some swelling around my kneecap at the front of the knee. I asked my regular doctor about why this isn't going down and he said bursitis.... but come on, the swelling happened precisely when the hamstring got injured, but it just hasn't gone away. I took NSAIDS for about 3 weeks and it went down considerably, but had to stop them due to stomach issues. Since then the swelling hasn't increased, but has not continued to go down further either... there's still a little there and it just won't go away...

Anyhow, does this sometimes happen or is this really odd?
What should I do about it?

    Hi,

This isn't completely unusual, although swelling from a hamstring tear would normally have gone down quite quickly and it is a little strange that the swelling is around the front of the knee.

All I can really suggest without seeing you is to ice and compress. Maybe get some massage and keep the knee raised when you are resting.

As long as it doesn't seem to be causing you any problems in terms of function or pain, I wouldn't worry too much about it

    Good luck!
