Default New 2 forum after having an acl reconstuction

I am new to this forum after just having an acl reconstruction.
I injuried my left knee on the 16th of May last year. After an mri the results showed I had totally reptured my acl,
Had fluid on the knee and displaced kneecap. After a hiccup and long wait I finally got a referal to an orthopaedic specialist in December last year. My specialist refered me 2 intensive physiotherapy for 3 months. Of which I did.
When going back 2 the specialist in May this year I was given 3 options. Firstly continue with 3 mths more physio as it had helped a bit. But may still need operation. Secondly have acl reconstruction operatiom. And thirdly do nothing at all and let it become an everyday ache and pain and problem.

I am only 37 and am a support assistant in a special needs school working with Children with server Autism, and gelt that 3 months more of intensive physio would not do much as 3 months had helped it but not a lot. And I was not prepared not to do anything, and let it become a normal ache pain, problem. So I went ahead and put down for the acl reconstruction operation.

Last thursday I had the acl operation on my knee at Swleoc. Recovery seems to be going ok. Although I am on high strenght painkillers the pain levels seem to be going ok. I am managing a few of the exercises although a couple of them are a bit painful. Was sick after the anasetic and have felt a bit sick and weak and rotten today. However I think that may be down to amount of painkillers I was told to take plus I have a lack of appepite and haven't eaten much since wednesday last week. However in the whole I think recovery is going fairly well.
    Many thanks Becky

Hi I am sorry to hear of that. Can you tell me how you injured it and what it felt like at the time and also what activities caused pain. Can you give more of a background basically.

Sorry about the delay in my reply, but have 2 rely on my phone and internet access. My phone also seems to be playing up abit on this forum set up!
Basically when I did the injury 2 my knee, I was putting some stuff down on a table, and as I stepped beteen table and chair, I turned my upper body to put the stuff down, and my legs didn't move. My left knee went forward and then sideways in quick succesion.

I Can't really tell if I heard a pop as I was in a nosiy environment. But was with a friend who told me what had happened. I was in immediate terrible pain. This happened late @ nite, so I went to hospital the next day when they took an xray. They adviced me to get an mri. They said it could be cartilidge/ arthritis but only an mri would tell me different. I managed to get an mri a few weeks later, and results. showed a complete rupture of the acl with fluid on knee and a disdplaced knee cap. I was then refered to a orthepedic consultant, which toothrough a mix up at my doctors. But in december last year I saw a consultant who adviced 3 months intensive physio, before they went down line of op.
After 3 months op it didn't feel like it had improved much and I was still getting alot of pain, discomfort, clicking and giving way on me. So we went ahead on the operation.

I am now coming upto 2 weeks post op. And although still on crutches out in public just incase I get knocked. And on high strenght painkillers and bending amd full exstension not brilliant. I can already see improvements. Part of the long wound has not quiet knittedh together so the nurse put on a couple of steri strips and a plaster over them 2 stop abt infection.
