Default Pain at back of knee and now at the front - help!

    Hi,

    Please can you help?

I'm a runner and a few days ago i developed a tender feeling which became apparent whilst bending my knee whilst walking - i felt this at the back inner of my left knee and i felt it as i lifted my leg and bent it to walk (if in slow motion) and it felt weak as i lifted my leg. I kept off my leg as much as i could over the past few days and today i am now feeling a shooting pain which comes on after a few steps on the same knee but now on the front side of my knee cap.

I have been rolling my quads and prodding around at the back of my knee and hamstrings - so i'm not sure if i've made things worse.

    Advice appreciated.

    Hi
Could be one of the hamstring tendons or possibly popliteus (muscle crossing the back of the knee joint).
I would advise on rest and lots of gentle hamstring stretches, possibly a couple of sports massages. If this doesn't do the trick then you should head off to a physio or sports therapist etc!
