I would be grateful for any advice please.
I haven't been running for years and then started again a couple of weeks ago. To get myself into running I was walking 1 min and running 1 min for a total of twenty min. On my fourth run both of my knees started to hurt quite badly right at the beginning of the run and I had to stop. I haven't been running since as I am now even finding it difficult to walk.
I have never had any problems with my knees in the past. I'm not overweight and live a healthy lifestyle (no drinking or smoking). I have had two babies quite close together (1 is 19 months and 1 is 10 weeks) both by C Section.
The pain is mainly along the inside of the knees, but if I straighten my legs I get pain at the back of the knees. The pain is really bad when I try to lift my legs (walking up and down stairs, putting socks on etc) I also have pain standing and sitting. I have the least pain first thing but as they day continues the pain gets worse and by the evening I can hardly walk. The pain at times actually brings tears to my eyes.
I went to the Dr's yesterday and she told me to take paracetamol and wear fabric supports. My problem is I'm allergic to anti inflammatory drugs and most pain killers. I took 2 paracetamol and was wheezing shortly after but they did take the edge of the pain... but i can't take anymore.
I'm worried that I might be doing my knees damage by not resting them but it's impossible with 2 babies.
If anyone can advise me what I could have done to my knees and what i should do to help them recover asap.
Thank you
Louise
