    Default pain in knee

Hi Heidi, My name is Jeff and i'm currently having a problem with my knee. About 2 months ago, i was running with my friend and we ran 8 miles. I am not used to running that long, so it was over doing it. I was sore, but didn't have any injury. the next morning, i was leaving my house to go to work and right as i stepped outside, i took a step and my knee just felt in pain. For the first few days, it hurt to walk. There might have been swelling, but i couldn't tell. After those couple days, i could walk fine, but i couldn't run. Then i went to the doctor, who told me it was either a strained ligament or hairline fracture. He didn't take an x-ray because he said it wouldn't show up. He gave me 2 weeks worth of naproxen and told me not to run for 3 weeks, which i didn't. i let my knee sit, although i stand for 8 hours straight at work(fast food). This was 1 month ago. I tried running last week, and i could run for about 1/2 mile. Then i would feel the sharp pain in my knee again. I would stop running and start walking, and then the pain would stop. I'm currently enlisted in the Air Force and leave in July for Basic, so i'd very much appreciate it if you would be able to help.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi
The injury could be a number of things but I couldn't possibly say. My advice is to continue to rest it and to get an appointment with a sports injury professional for an assessment and appropriate treatment.
