Default Pain on outside of knee

I am training for a marathon (London) and have developed a pain on outside of left knee. I have bought a knee support (LP Products) to support it but still get a lot of pain. it is especially agreviated when I go down hill but once it starts I have it for the whole run.

I have been told that the knee support should have a whole so that it leaves my patala free to move, so not sure if the current knee support is aggrevaiting it.

I have been doing extra stretches, especially ones for the IT band.

I have taken ibuprofen and have ice packed the area.

It has got better as I have eased off running for a few days, do I have ITBS? or is it something else.

I have been referred to a sports physio by a friend but can't get to see them for a week.

    Hi
IT band syndrome is very possible. Rest and stretching are definately the best thing to do.
A physio will probably do some massage and ultrasound treatment and possibly give you some other exercises, depending on what is contributing to your injury. You can find out more here: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/knee/irunnersknee.html
IT band straps are very good for this condition: http://www.return2fitness.co.uk/Supports_And_Braces/Knee_Supports/itcompband
