Default Pain at top of Kneecap.

I have been using a treadmill in the gym and started getting pain under my kneecap on my right knee. The pain is quite sharp and is at the top of the kneecap. I rested the knee for two weeks and then used the treadmill again but the pain came back. It starts off quite low on the pain threshold and increases the longer I run.

I have recently rested the knee for 3 weeks not going to the gym at all. I used the treadmill for the first time on Wednesday and all seemed fine. Then nearer the end of the workout the pain started again. It then also started in my left knee as well.

Does anyone know if this is something that will clear up with rest or should I see a physio?

    Hi
I think it is most likely a patella maltracking problem, where the knee cap moves too far laterally, resulting in pain as the knee cap rubs on the bone underneath (it should run in a groove).
It is usually caused by a number of contributing factors which can vary from person to person. I would go to a physio to get an assessment to check if this is what it is and what you need to do to correct it.
