Default Pain at top of tibia

    Hi

A week ago I was on a running machine returning to fitness after 10 years

I ran 6k felt fine legs a little tierd. Stretched off etc

In the morning I could barely walk, my right knee was really painful and my left ankle was burning.

My knee pain is more bearable now after a week but the top my my tibia on the inside of my leg just under the knee really hurts to the touch, it feels unsteady when walking and is really stiff in the mornings

My gp claims I have strained the ligament but Iam not so sure .

My left ankle is hurting when I walk also, and this morning a week on my left knee has started to hurt in the same place as the right knee

circle on picture shows the problem area:

What have I done ? Is my gp correct in his diagnosis ?

Iam taking 400mg ibuprofen like it's water it's ok until I put weight on the legs then its increadably uncomfortable to even walk.

    I feel so gutted

    Any help would be great

Just to add in iam a 32 year old man, i have been back doing gym work for 3 weeks before this happened, i have been doing all bike, cross trainer and jogging before this.

    Wayne.

    Hi
I think it is unlikely a ligament sprain, due to the area where the pain is and that is only appeared to hurt the morning after exercise.
Its difficult to hypothesise what may be wrong with it, but I would definitiely recommend seeking professioanl help from a phsyio or sports therapist etc, especially as you mentioned feelings of instability

my knee is more stable now, but i still have quite a bit of pain at the top of the tib.

going downstairs is painful, going up is just hard work, but the pain is becoming less and less as each day passes.

i dont know, my GP is sticking to his original diagnosis of strained lateral ligament, what can i do ? go to the A&E and sit there for 7 hours so i can get an xray ?

    grrr..

i think i will keep on icing it and taking pain killers for a few more days then go back to the GP again.

    thanks.

    EDITED

i went to the minor injury department at our local hospital, they also say it is a ligament injury, they believe it to be the lateral collateral ligament.

they have told me to keep on using ice, keep the leg up as much as i can, and try and keep the weight off as much as possible and it shoudl improve over the next 4 weeks.

But if it is not showing any signs of improvent in a week iam to go back to the hospital and they will have another look.

    thanks for your advice.

The best thing you can do it so rest and ice it. I'm sure it will continue to improve.
Given now that you have had 2 opinions of lateral ligament injury you should follow treatment for this: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/knee/ilateralligament.html
