Unhappy Painin back of knee and top of knee cap

    Hi

last March I went jogging and hit about 7k before i felt what i can only explain as cramp in the back of my knee above my calf. foolishly i ran another K thinking i could run the cramp out. Instead it became crippling resulting in me hobbling for 2 weeks after, could hardly put anyweight on my knee.

I tried running after the pain susided and each time i felt it 'cramping' up in the same place so stopped immediately and hobbled home.

since then if i run i get the same pain in the back of my leg, then a secondary pain around and behind my knee cap. Mainly at the top.

The doctors referred me to a physio who thought it was a problem with my patella tracking. no amount of exercise they gave me did any good.

I then gave running a rest for the last 2 months and had no pain. I went runing 4 days ago, the pain came back and my knees have been hurting ever since. I can describe the knee pain as being as though someone is pushing there hand under the top of my knee cap and it feels shap like someone is pushing needles under there.

Does anyone have any idea what this can be. It is getting me down as I love running.

    any help would be apreciated

    Hi
Most knee problems which occur in runners without a traumatic incident are due at least in part to patella mal-tracking. Other things to consider are the popliteus muscle at the back of the knee: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/backknee/popliteus.php
