    Default swollen knee. cause?

hello i will try to keep this short.
right knee in question. 6 or 7 years ago i had a ACL.
    that has been fine.
july 2009 same knee i had a cartlidge tear. i had some removed and 2 stitches to repair another bucket handle tear.
since then my knee has been ok , i have played a little tennis and football nothing to serious.
last week after playing a little football my knee did not feel quiet right(som pain, discomfort). difficult to explain.
there were no cracks or noises. but 24 hours later my knee swelled up a little.
i have since been taking anti inflamable tablets and iced packed it.
the swelling has gone down and feels a little better. i have been doing some stretching and light movements and the knee feels ok, no clicking or signs of more cartlidge damage.
i have booked a gp appointment to get it looked at.
i know its difficult but any ideas please?
it feels like i have just aggrevated my knee a little if thats possible

    Hi
Yes it is possible for the knee to just have been tweaked somehow. You might have just sprained a ligament or it might even be some kind of problem with the knee cap tracking.
You have been doing the right thing to rest, ice, compress etc.
Seeing the gp is also a good move, just to get it checked.
Have you been keeping up with your knee strengthening/mobility exercises?

    thanks for your reply.
i have been maintaining cycling to strengthen the muscles, not as much as i would like though.
is it possible i could have torn my cartlidge again slightly without feeling or hearing a noise ,crack or feeling anything?

    Hi
It is possible to have done some more damage to the cartilage. But I agree with the physio that it probably isn't too bad and will be hopefully settle down within a couple of weeks.

thanks again. went to see the GP today who to be fair was as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
the swelling has settled down, just a few little achy pains now.
just got to wait now for it to settle.
