My son suffered a blow to the lateral aspect of his knee 7 months ago. It was diagnosed as a grade 1 MCL tear. It has never been entirely pain free, with activity exacerbating pain (not helped by basic army training), but after another blow to the same area he is now c/o worse pain -the Doctor thinks maybe torn meniscus. Could this have happened at the time of the 1st injury (and not been picked up) or likely from the 2nd time? Also if an op is suggested to repair his knee, is it too late to repair (rather than trim) a meniscus that was damaged 7 mths ago?
