Unhappy Tripped over a dog gate & landed on my knee!

i am 50+ years old. i thought i could step over the dog's gate, but found out that i couldn't. i flew a few feet and landed on my right knee (at least it was on carpet). it was sore, but no huge deal. it has now been 3 weeks and pain has just started on the inside of my knee and down a few inches towards my inner calf. no pain on my knee cap at all. never any swelling. i guess i can describe it as a shooting pain. it hurts quite a bit when i kneel on it. very minimal pain on the back of my knee. i have found some relief when i wrap my knee with ace bandage. it is not constant, but when it does hurt, it certainly isn't comfortable. any thoughts?

    Hi

Are there any other symptoms at all? Such as clicking, locking or feeling unstable? What activities or movements aggravate it? Can you touch a specific painful spot?

Sorry for all the question, but it might help get an idea of what's happening.

    Thanks!

there is not a spot that i would touch and it will hurt. no clicking or locking. one time, on the first day of pain, i stood up and felt like it was going to "go out from under me". it hurts when i kneel on it. bothersome going up steps. it actually seems to hurt on the inner part of my knee and down a few inches into my leg. there had been a bit of discomfort on the back of my leg (knee) in the beginning, but that has subsided. it does not hurt as much as it did in the beginning, but it still hurts. i was at a store today and had to kneel to get to the bottom shelf. when i stood up, i felt as if i had put a real strain on the side of my knee. thanks.

    Hi

    Thanks for that extra information.

From what you have said there are quite a few conditions which could be causing or contributing to your pain I'm afriad. Here are some:

    Medical Cartilage meniscus injury:

    Synovial plica:

    Chondromalacia patellae:

I think these are probably the most likely, but I'm sorry to not be able to narrow it down further for you.

If there is no improvement then I recommend you visit a professional who will be able to assess the knee for you.

    Good luck!
