Question What do I do now?

My MRI shows a localized subcondral insufficiency fracture in the medial aspect f the medial tibial plateau subjacent to the medial meniscus body accompanied by surrouding intense extensive marrow edema. Also reactive edema along the medial collateral ligament and medial knee joint capsule. There is moderate grade diffuse cartilage loss along the majority of the weight-bearing aspect of the medial femoral condyle and also the medial tibial plateu. There is a small complex tear in the medial meniscus posterior horn root.

Weeks ago my knee locked, a few days later it was 50-60% improved, so saw orthopedist. Knee was injected with cortisone. It became much better. However due to medial pain I asked for an MRI which is what is written above. After seeing the orthopedist again, seems nothing can be done. I wear a ace pull on knee support, and find if I also wrap that with another ace bandage it supports the medial area much more. Hurts to go down steps, cannot kneel on this knee. The fracture is just a hairline sort of like a stress fracture. No displacement.

How long do these things take to heal? What else can I do? What should I not do?

    Hi
A stress fracture takes 4-6 weeks so you need to rest as much as possible during this time. It's a good idea to wear a knee support to prevent the knee giving way.
Once the rest period is finished you would be best to see a physiotherapist or similar who can provide a rehabilitation programme for you.

Wink What do I do now?

Thanks. I forgot to tell you I am 65. I am ending my 5th week and it is starting to feel much better but I continue with my knee support. I have also wrapped that with another ACE for more support, because I am a nurse and our hospital is vast. Somedays I do not walk at all, others I walk more. However, I try not to walk too far or sit if I have to.

I will look into PT. Thank you very much Heidi for your support and advice.
