Question What will it take to get the knee straight?

    Hello,

So briefly, since Jan this year I’ve had 3 knee scopes - 1 scope to clean out the knee since getting inflammation from housemaids knee sustained in Jan 07 and 2 more scopes to clear out scar tissue that then formed, both times I have lost extension severely to about 30 degrees. I had my last scope 2 weeks ago now and this time I was in a full leg cast for 1 week – as soon as I had the cast removed I went straight into a dynamic extension brace – which I have been wearing almost 24 x 7. But yet again the knee bounced back and the next day at Physio I was stuck at 28 degrees loss!. The physio said right away the problem cannot be scar tissue yet at this early stage but its tight hamstrings now and they’ve also shortened due to this issue going on since Jan 07. So does anyone know if after all this time stretching exercises/physio will fix this hamstring issue or would tendon/hamstring lengthening be the only thing to fix this now?. I also have constant pain at the back of the knee and I am so fed up after all this time that the issues still not resolved?.

    Thanks

    Smile Knee straightening

I have had a similar problem to yourself - knee reconstruction in 1992 then 3 scopes to get rid of scar tissue still carrying a baker's cyst at the back of my knee. Surgeon reckons I should have a knee reconstruction as am bone to bone but whatever I am doing to keep doing it. I go to the gym every day and do a variety of classes especially pump class which I think has strengthened the muscles around the knee - run regularly 5 klms - slight problem if I don't stretch after a run as knee gets very stiff. My leg will not straighten and I am getting quite depressed about it as I can see in years to come it will be a huge problem - doc has prescribed some physio to see how it goes - which I intend on doing plus another scope to clean out scar tissue/fluid. Interested to see if anyone has had similar problem with surgery and straightening of the leg.
