    Unhappy Burning Thigh

Hi. My right thigh is still burning along with my right groin. The MRI I had done did not show anything major. I had one done last year that showed nothing major. Very minor arthritis and Degenerative Back D.

My Sports Medicine Doctor wants me to get an EMG done on my thigh.

My right thigh has lost muscle. Do you think I may have damaged my Femoral Nerve?
I remember that I lifted and held a very big heavy box for about 30 minutes and a few days after that my groin and thigh had excruciating pain.

If it's a muscle thing, would it burn?

    Default Burning Thigh

    Hi Barb,
The burning that your experiencing could have something to do with the femoral nerve; but the cause of these symptoms might be found in the dual muscles we call the ilio-psoas. This muscle can become dysfunctional and strain because of poor posture, prolong sitting, poor body mechanics, or direct trauma to the muscle.

The ilio-psoas attaches to T12-L5 vertebrae and discs; when this muscle is dysfunctional (tight/spasmatic) it may pull vertebrae and discs thus may be the cause of low back problems.
It then attaches itself inside the pelvic then to the inside most upper femur. All kinds of nerve roots run directly through the ilio-psoas so when this muscle becomes dysfunctional these nerves are affected as well causing pain, weakness and numbness.

Manual therapy with exercises to stretch this muscle and to realign the pelvic bone along with changing some poor postural and mechanics is a good place to start. But first see your Sports Medicine Doctor to see what he says because he has the ability to both visually and physically access you and would know more about your history.

I wish you well in your pursuit to wellness
    Ray
