Default Hamstring update 4 months on

pulled my hamstring about four months ago and hasnt been right since. i can run now and have most of my strengh back but i get pain most of the day and still get slight twinges when i do activitys involving the hamstring.

i finally had enough and went back to my doctor , she recomended me for an ultrasonic scan which i had last week , the results come back and everything seemed fine.

i am now getting an MRI scan on my leg in the next few weeks .. what do you think this will show up ??

could it just be scar tissue

    Hi
Have you had any sports massage or other treatment on it? Try to get some if you haven't already, it could make a big difference.
Scar tissue does build up to repair a tear in a muscle and this is normal. But quite often excess scar tissue develops which can be a problem as it is not elastic like muscle tissue. Its also not as strong.
Massage can break this down and realign the muscle tissues.

    hey
thanks for you quick reply .

i had some physio which included ultra-sound , this was about 3 months ago.

i should be getting an MRI scan next week if the specialist refers me. will this show up the scar tissue if there is any.

is there any way i can get through my football matches till i get it all sorted , i have been limiting the amount of times i play and try to rest for a good 4 days before i play again .

Ultrasound can be useful, but I would still recommend sports massage.
I think an MRI scan will show up scar tissue.
As for playing football, obviously rest is the best option! If this is just not possible, all you can do is make sure you are thoroughly warmed up beforehand and wear a compression support or compression shorts.

    Hi
Cortisone (corticosteroid) injections are the most commonly used injection for musculoskeletal injuries. Although I have not heard of these used in the hamstring muscles. This doesn't mean they can't be! It is also not definate that this is what he plans to use, it is just the most commonly injected substance.

No not at all. If you are paying then you have the right to fast treatment. and also a second opinion is always useful!

    hello Heidi
i had my Cortisone injection on wed , the MRI showed swelling on my hamstring near my buttock .

i am now waiting for physio and sports massage.

the doctor said the swelling was at the top but i have alot of pain lower down , will this be a result of the swelling near my buttock ? how long does the Cortisone take to work . im still a little bit sore from the injection so i can really tell at the minute
