Thigh numbness, tingling, burning, stabbing pain, etc
I had a lateral release and small tears cleaned up on my meniscus done over a year ago on my right knee. Everything seemed to be doing well until the day of surgery for my SLAP repair (right shoulder). That night after surgery, I was awakened by severe stabbing like pains on the outside of my right thigh (about 1/4 of the way up the leg from the knee). The pain has continued since and it has been 9 weeks. I mentioned to my orthopedist and he was worried maybe nerve issues in my back (possible complication from surgery) and prescribed me some neurontin to be taken at bedtime. It seemed to help, but what has helped the most is sleeping flat on my left side with my knee slightly bent. On my follow up, I informed the doctor that I noticed that when I am sitting and have knee bent back quite a bit or completely straight out, the stabbing pain will come back. He wasn't as concerned with it being nerve related, but more a deep knot. My physical therapist (same person who handled my PT for my knee and is familiar with the tightness that i have had in the past while rehabbing) also felt the area and noticed that my IT band was extremely tight and gave me some stretches. The stretches have helped, but very little. The pain is so intense that it hurts to walk since the muscles are contracting.
Is there something else that I should possibly consider doing? I feel like this isn't getting any better and am getting pretty frustrated!
