    Default torn quad muscle?

I think I tore my left quad (i guess rectus femoris but not sure) last night while playing roller derby. it had felt tight, i thought it would loosen up, then i jumped to the left and it felt like it ripped open. still really sore today, doesn't look swollen or bruised but tender from the groin to knee - worse at the top. can't push off left foot to either side, or lift the leg. i've been icing it, and have a tight tubigrip i can wear. what else should i do? i can probably take a week off at most without affecting my position on the team.
    thanks

    Hi
You're doing the right thing and I would agree that it sounds like a rec fem injury.
Definately take this coming weekend off from any sports and continue to rest, ice, compress and elevate.
As there is no bruising/swelling, it is probably a grade one or minor grade 2 injury. These usually heal within 2-3 weeks.
Make sure after a couple more days that you gently stretch the muscle and some sports massage would really help. Also strengthening with a resistance band at 1 week plus provided it is painfree.
