Default 17 yo female distance runner groin/hip pain

6 weeks ago started as minor pain developed into pain too severe to run. Can walk (had a slight limp) & ride exercise bike, stopped training. Family dr. did X-rays & found nothing - sent to Orthopedic and did MRI's, again found nothing - sent back for bone scan to rule out stress fracture, again negative, some swelling in SI Joint area. After not running (rest & ice) Started physical therapy 2 weeks ago, they said hip appeared slightly out of alignment, attributed it to injuring it & not catching this so muscles tightened up & caused it to stay out of alignment. Doing strectches at P.T. three times a week for two weeks now, they say alignment is slightly better now but tried to get on treadmill but still CANNOT run, severe pain. This is a senior distance runner up for scholarships, went on college visit & they said sounded like sports hernia. Would this have shown on the MRI or Bone scans?

    Hi
I think its quite difficult to give you any advice on the information here. Would need a bit more about the location of the pain, when it started, when it happens etc

Thanks for getting back with me. The injury happened about six weeks ago and she is not sure when and how it happened .She just started feeling some pain then it got worse. The pain is in the groin area up high by the pelvis area very close to the you know female area LOL. The pt seems to have worked on the si joint staying in place but when she got on the tread mill to try to run she is still having the pain in the groin area.

    Thanks

Ok. Another thing to consider is osteitis pubis: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/frontthigh/ostitispubis.htm
Although again this may have appeared on the MRI. A sports hernia would show up too I think.
Mkae sure she continues with the PT for now. 2 weeks is a very short period in the world of PT and in most cases it takes a much longer time frame to get real benefits.
