    Default Abdominal/Groin Pain

    Hi All

I had a groin strain at the beginning of the year which lasted for a couple of months. It wasn't a severe pain but did stop me playing football. As a result of this I ended up visiting a pyhsio in July. One of the stretches he taught me was to lie on my bed and pull my knees into my chest, as soon as I did this I felt a burning pain in my lower stomach on the left side and to a lesser extent on my right side.

I did this a couple more times but continued to get the pain so I stopped. I told the physio about the pain I had been experiencing when I saw him the following week and he asked me to see the doctor to make sure it wasn't a hernia. The doctor said that it wasn't so I carried on as normal but didn't continue with those stretches

I played football constantly throughout the summer and while I was aware of a pain in my lower stomach on my left hand side (the right hand side is now pain free) it did not stop my playing and didn't really hurt all that much.

However, over the last couple of months I have begun to experience a groin strain, again in my left leg, which seems to have exaggerated the pain in my stomach. I have visited the doctor again to make sure it isn't a hernia and they say it definately isn't but the pain is now quite severe and hurts most when getting out of bed in the morning

I have not played any football or done any excercise in 6 weeks now, and I have taken ibuprofen tables over the course of a couple of weeks. My groin strain has not gone and it all feels connected down my left hand side beginning at my stomach. I am frustrated as I want to play football and rest does not seem to be doing anything to help. Does anyone have any suggestions at all as to what I can do?

    Hi

Could be a couple of things, but I would look at Gilmore's groin http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/frontthigh/gilmores_groin.htm and Osteitis pubis: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/frontthigh/ostitispubis.htm

But ultimately you need to get a thorough assessment from an experienced specialist in sporting injuries. This is the only way forward.

    Good luck!
