Default Dull ache right in the groin area

    Hello

    I am new here (*waves*)

I love running and used to run everyday but cos of various niggles & injuries, I now run about 4 times a week.

I felt a DOMs like pain in my left inner thigh about 8 days ago, ignored it and carried on training as normal.

About 3 days ago, the pain changed, to a more dull ache right in the groin area. I went to see my sports massage therapist on Monday night and he worked on my hip area and buttocks and did a lot of release work.

It was ok on Tuesday and I thought it was feeling better but today (Wed) it really hurts. I did run 8 miles this morning cos it felt ok and didn't hurt whilst I was running but I am thinking now that that was a bit stupid. I am not very good at resting. REALLY not very good!

It doesn't hurt when I run/cycle/stepper (I am aware of it but no pain)
It aches (throbs) when I walk, when I'm sitting still, when I go to stand up, turn over in bed. The ache comes and goes all day. One minute I think it feels better and the next, it hurts again.

It aches in my inner thigh, right into the groin and I also feel a sensation (not a pain) down the left thigh.

I know I have a very tight pseoas muscle and buttocks.

If anyone can help me, I'd be most grateful. Sorry for such a long post!

    Thank you.

    Hi runner

It sounds like a psoas problem, pelvic muscular imbalance with possible nerve irritation/entrapment. Stretching the psoas, hams, quads, QLs, adductors and TFL at home can be a great addition with the therapy you’re receiving. For a while cut back on the amount of running your doing. Rest your body my friend!!!

Also be patient; you said you started feeling this pain 8 days ago but the truth of the matter is that this problem has been brewing month maybe even years before you've felt that pain. With that being said; muscular dysfunctions are never solved in 1 session. It will take multiple session (2-3Xs a week) decreasing the sessions as stable improvements are made. I would also be a good idea for you to get a postural evaluation.

I wish you well in your pursuit to wellness

    Hi Ray

Thank you for reponding. I have no choice but to rest now, I'm in serious pain!

I have an appointment to see an osteopath tomorrow so will see what she says.

I'm so annoyed with myself. Serious case of over training & ignoring my body I think!

I agree that it is probably a long term thing that has finally come to a head. Definately rest and stretch frquently throughout the day, provided this doesn't cause pain.
The problem will probably be sorted with a rehab programme to correct any muscle imbalances.
    Good luck!
