Default gilmore's groin conservative treatment. what happens next?

    Hi!
For last 3 years training futsal, i've beeing suffering next day after the training/match (even more). I feel pain in my lower abdominal musles, not sharp, but i can barly do anything. The worse is in the morning. As i warm up, the pain and weakness slowly fades away. I've always thought it was due my physical condition, so i did physical trainings on my own to improve in this segment. But it happend:
During the preparation match in pre-season i felt a sharp pain in my lower right abdomines/groin, when doing a sudden move in changing the direction. I could not play again. I tried to stratch the musles before i cooled down, but it has just worsen the injury.

After a week of resting i've gone to ultrasound imaging. I've been diagnosed with start of hernia inguinalis. But there is no hernia on my stomach. That's says my sports physio too, who treats me for sports hernia - gilmore's groin. We do a lot of massage, exercises for stability, strengthening musles, as week as ultrasound and hot/cold therapy. After every day exercisising situation improved a lot, to the levels we decided to try running. I run 3km, slowly , with barely noticing the pain (i noticed it only when i was running in a rise in the road). After my stretching rutine (different than used to have) came the next day. I regressed in my healing process and came to a condition i had 1month ago. Every time i cough and i dont push my hands on that place situation worsen a bit. It is all very depressing for me and the team. I've been off the field for 3 months now, and it doesn't seem i will be back soon. After reading the web about cases who had the same injury i am not optimistic anymore (Torres and Kaka have it too!? i imagine Torres having it, he has the same awkward movement i am used to have myself, when there cant be any competitive acceleration produced with my legs). BTW, what happened with Nick, who posted a year ago??
I worked really hard to get this far, but i see no point doing it if i won't be able to play again. And i thing bothers me the most. What happens if i carry on doing the exercises, doing a progress and stop doing it for a month or so? Will injury came back? I sort of got the feeling that my state of injury is depended on my workout. What about the surgery? What's the odds, rehabilitation time and other stuff i need to do before (MR).

    Regards, Bostjan

    Hi
If you stop your exercises for a few weeks, the injury won't necessarily come back, provided you are resting it and not doing any sport or anything more excessive than usual.
Surgery can be very effective for this condition. We have recently spoken to David Lloyd about the lloyd release:

    Heidi, tnx for the reply.

While i was off forum, i worked very hard on my conservative therapy. And there are some positive results. Nevertheless i decided to do all the necessary to have a surgery operation Till then i will continue my exerscise rutine. I think i am as good as it possibly gets with therapy treatment in my case (still hoping i am wrong about this). The pain in the morning faded away. I feel it only when i am caughing and making the exercises to agressive. I've had in this situation before and dont wanna risk it to got worse. So there will be no trial with slowly running and other agressive search for improvements. I will keep doing my standard stability and strenghtening exercises with adding gim ball...

I will let you know what exactly is my injury about and results of treating it, what ever will appear to be the solution to set the example of this. Currently i am waiting to be taken to examination in sport's injury hospital in Slovenia. Then i think, i will get the MR or any other kind of imaging tool (i dont think lloyd release is a practice in Slovenia) to get the diagnosis and if necessary surgery operation...

    Hey.
I had meeting with the surgeon and we decided to take it's chances. I had surgery on 10.2. It was not a big deal. Well respeced surgeon dr. Kruh did it for me. I went home from hospital in 2 days, and only resting in first week. There were difficulties with toilet reflexes and i wasnt lucky with spinal headaches from the regional anestesia, but things soon got better. I started doing exercises 3 weeks after operation at first longer walks and easy gilmore groin exercises, now in 5 week after operation i started with running and swimming. Cant wait to try more agressive moves in folowing few weeks. Will let you know on improvement. The wound looks very nice, the scar is about 10 cm wide, but it doesn't bother me at all.

After 4 months of recovering from the surgery i can do everything but playing soccer. I stopped doing my exercises every day due to lack of time. I still use gymball and do strengthening and stretching exercises 3-4 times a week but rather running (20-40km a week). Still looking for improvements on my abdiminal wall to be able to do more agressive moves. I played tennis and basketball and it's not the same like in my ful health condition, but i barely think about it and it doesnt bother me so much. I am a bit slower - my sprinting abilities are a bit gone and i fear to push it to the limits. I tried to hit the ball with my right leg (side of my problematic groin) and i feel a weak but sharp pain everytime i make a shoot. So i don't risk with futsal anymore. Maybe i will play again, maybe it's the end of a career. I have many hobbies so maybe i can choose a healthier one. Still hope i am wrong.
