Thread: groin pain returns

    Default groin pain returns

Quick background. I was diagnosed with a sports hernia, 2nd degree tear of the rectous abdomenous around 2 years ago. I am a tennis teaching professional and continued to play through the pain and it eventually seemed to more or less go away. Over the last few weeks I began to notice increased pain in my lower back. About a week ago after a hitting session, later in the night at dinner my left side groin began to stiffen and I started to limp quite noticeably. Since then, the pain increased. My ability to sprint to a ball is almost gone, I walk with a limp and most interesting is that the pain is the worst when lying down to sleep at night. It feels as if someone is pulling my leg out of socket and I have to get out of bed, and walk around to alleviate the pain. I unfortunatley do not have medical coverage and I know in order to get a proper diagnosis I'd need some sort of imaging- x ray, MRI, whatever.

I was wondering if given the fact that I had a diagnosis previously and it has come back worse this time if perhaps I've done some more serious damage. Also, any theories on if given my pain is worse when standing, lying down, etc. what the condition I have now might be. Thanks.

    Hi
I think this is way too complicated a case for an internet forum unfortunately. The fact that you have had a previous injury and that you now have some back pain as well as a return of the groin injury suggests that you should seek some medical advice.
In the meantime, rest as much as possible, DO NOT continue to play through pain! This will not help! Rest, ice and compression should be applied.
The fact that it is worse at night suggests that there is some inflammation in the area. This is pretty common with most injuries.

Thanks for the reply Heidi. I am quite concerned as I know there is the potential for really messing myself up long term. I'm hoping for the best. It's weird how day to day my pain level goes up and down. Yesterday it was not particularly bad, today it seems to be back to how it's been in previous days and I have not changed my routine at all. I suppose at some point I'll have to go get seen.
