    Default Groin Strain: Is the doc right?

    Hi,
    I've just been diagnosed with a mild groin strain by the doctor but based on my understanding of groin strain and what I have read on line it doesn't quite fit and would like to know your opinions. Below are the key points:
    * - Played Rugby on Saturday - no injury
    * - Iced my knee on Monday night (I had ACL recon 2 years ago so still have to ice occasionally)
    * - After icing my knee my groin was sore, felt uncomfortable overnight
    * - Tuesday had pain walking and could not lift my leg from seating position
    * - Wednesday same
    * - Thursday morning, slightly eased and can lift leg, but still sore. Doc diagnosed mild groin strain. Says it can come 48 hours later and I should take Ibroprophen and return to light activity Monday.

    However, if I had a groin strain bad enough to give me pain walking, lifting leg etc this would be at least category 2 and I would have expected to have felt something at the time of injury, not 48 hours later.
    I have had pain in that thigh before, particularly during my rehab after ACL recon.
    Good news is that symptoms are easing.

    Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

    I agree that a groin strain would usually be felt at the time and symptoms would come on within 24 hours, not 48.
    DOMS can be delayed by 48 hours so it may be this as it is not felt at the time and can really cause quite a lot of discomfort.
    It's good that it's improving. Keep gently stretching and don't play again this weekend unless you are pain-free to run and kick.
    Good luck
