Thread: Help with bursitis of the hip

Default Help with bursitis of the hip

I have been suffering from hip pain for 3 months now, and I have had an MRI (on December 28) that confirmed that I have bursitis of the hip. I am a collegiate runner and I have become very frustrated with this injury because I ice daily, I was on an antiiflammatory, and I have been doing hip exercises to work on the muscle strength/stability around my injury spot. With doing all of this, the pain is not getting better. My running has been limited greatly and I have had to cross train by biking very often because the pain can be so uncomfortable. I've done some research online and it seems like there are medical options (steroid injections) that I can pursue, but I don't know much about these. I would really appreciate any feedback that you have regarding this topic. Thank you very much. Oh, I am an 18 year old male if that makes any difference.

Steroid injections are an option, which have mixed success rates. You should speak to your Doctor about the possibility and if it would be suitable for you.

Thanks for the response. Do you have any suggestions for the time being? Because I am at college now and live away from home where my doctor is, so would running on it now be alright? I guess what I'm trying to say is, will running on this injury make it worse than it is now?

    Thank you for your time.

If you are still experiencing pain then I would not recommend running on it. Try to rest it from anything strenuous, maintain your fitness by cross training/swimming etc.
All else I can say is to continue with your PT exercises until you can see your doctor.
