    Default Hip Pain when running.

    Reading through the forum it would seem that I could be suffering from a case of Hip Bursitis injury ... but wanted to check.

    I bought a new pair of trainers to run in. Exactly the same pair as I had before but shortly after i started to suffer pain from my hip when running. This has now continued for a month - six weeks.

    If I rest for a couple of days the pain subsides but if I run on consecutive days it can get very painful. The pain is not like a muscular ache but more like a numb ache that starts after say 1 or 2 miles and then continually gets worse , the longer I run. The symptoms feel like I am getting a numb leg from the hip down ..

    When touching my hip the pressure point of pain is towards the back of the hip bone. It is definately not the glute. When the symptoms are at its worse my lower back can ache too ...

    Is this bursitis ??? and is the only prevention rest and ice ????

    Treatment does involve rest and ice. Also anti-inflammatories can be used. But the main thing to do is work out what has caused it. If you can correct the cause, then once inflammation has decreased, it shouldn't return.
    What makes you so sure its not related to the glutes? The reason I ask this is that I don't think bursitis would cause referred pain into the lower back.
    Other things to consider include:
    Trigger points in glutes
    Inflammation of Si joint
    Disc herniation - sciatic symptoms

    Go to Egoscue.com and watch the video that talks about the Tower and Supine Groin Progressive. Do that e-cise daily for a week and notice how much better your pain is. It sounds like you have lost the ability to flex and extend your hip correctly and the rotators have locked on creating the pain.

    Just a thought but could it be tendinitis?

    I had a similar pain in my hip where a numb feeling would creep down my leg. When I went to the physio it turned out that the actual problem I had was tendinitis in the tendons that go over the hip joint at the side but because I hadn't had this treated properly, other tendons and muscles were becoming damaged as they had to work extra hard to compensate for the tendon with tendinitus.

    I have just been able to get back into running after five months of now running but this time would have been significantly reduced if my doctor had refereed me to a physio initially instead of waiting three months!

    Default I agree with Heidi

    You should go get that checked out. With no specific mechanism of injury it would be great to clear your lumbar spine prior to providing any more advice. The only thing on her list I would wager it isn't is SI joint pain/inflammation. SI joint pain is actually quite rare. SI joint pain is usually localized and will generally not refer pain down the leg or to the hip. It will also not cross midline. I would recommend getting assessed by a professional. Hope this helps.

    A possible cause could be a tear in the labral in your hip.

    I have suffered with this for almost 3 years, and i have surgery booked next month.

    The pain i had was a numb pain that was located almost at the top of my groin, but i could never point to it exactly.

    When i ran, the numb pain would slowly get worse and worse. It would take about a week complete rest for the pain to go back to only slightly sore
