    Default Pain after broken hip

    Hi all,

Im a 49 year old Male who broke his hip after an awkward fall off a chair in the garage, bizzare i know.
The doctors couldn't believe a person as young and fit as i am could have done this, they usually only see this as a result of a road traffic accident. It happened on Jan 2nd 2009.
I had fractured the neck of femur which was pinned with 3 screws which are still in place.

Although intially pleased that i didn't have to have a hip replacement, im now thinking it may have been a better option, at least a less painful one.

I still limp slightly and get aching in the hip when i sit in certain positions, i also get pain when i reach the extremes of normal motion, eg when trying to lift my leg over a smalll fence etc.
I can recreate the pain by turning my foot and knee inwards.

Any clues as to why i might still be feeling this injury? could it be scare tissue? could this be reolved with more physio?

going down the NHS route is a pain so any advice would be welcome

    cheers
    Paul

    any advice

    Hi
Its unlikely to be scar tissue causing that extent of pain.
Have you had follow up investigations such as post surgery x-rays and MRI's? What about rehabilitation post-surgery?

It may be a referred pain from the hip. Or it may be that because her walking pattern has changed considerably that this is affecting the knee. It's not uncommon after a hip injury to get knee pain.

I presume she had an x-ray or MRI of the hip intially. Did this also cover the knee? Have you spoken to the Doctor about it? If not I would advise you do.
