Unhappy Pain side of hip, outside of thiigh, into knee

Was hit by a car, while walking, on 12-1-09. Have experienced sharp pain everyday since, especially the first two hours of the morning. Sitting seems to help alleviate it somemwhat. During the day I can sit for a couple minutes and get up to the sharp pain. ANother tI had ime there is no pain.

I had an x-ray of the hip and it showed normal wear and tear. The orthopedic surgeon has ignored this pain since February. There has been no specific treatment for it.

The accident injured my shoulder and I have frozen shoulder now. Also, my knee was hit by the car and I had to have cortison shots in it. That wears off and I have to pull myself up the steps.

Has anyone experienced the same pain in the side of the hip, down the outside of the thigh and into the outside of the knee? If so, were you able to get rid of it. What did the doctor diagnose as the cause of the pain?

I am scheduling a visit to a pain specialist today.

    Hi
Sorry to hear about your problems. I think however that the issues may be more complex than it is possible to deal with on this forum. After a traumatic incident such as yours there may have been damage to so many areas that it would be unfair to speculate.
I think you need to keep pushing for referrals and appointments until you get to the bottom of it. I would also try to get an MRI scan, as the X-ray you had will not have shown as soft tissue damage.

    Smile MRI is called for

    Thanks for the reply.

I agree that a MRI is called for. Sadly I went to an Orthopedic surgeon that did not bother to read his own injury questionnaire and ignored my contacts with his office that he was not addressing my main pain - hip/thigh/knee.

I hav obtained a referral to a spine and pain doctor and hope to see him this week. I will push for a MRI because, as you stated, the x-ray will not show soft tissue damage.

Personally I feel there is possibly a fracture in my pelvis that is causing the pain.

Having lived with this pain for almost 8 months now, I must persevere to find the cause.
