    Default Sore iliac crest

I have been suffering from soreness on my iliac crest esp when I stretch my TFL or if I stick my hip out to the side. I also feel quite tender around the TFL/ glute med area (not sure where they overlap). It has been like this about 3 weeks. Any ideas what it could be?
Should add that I run but I haven't run for 3 weeks due to pain. I stretch the TFLa nd foam roller to but little or no improvement.

Default Does it get worse when you stretch it?

Your still stretching with no improvement? It may possibly be more of a trochanteric bursitis. This can actually come about from overstretching the ITB on rare occasion. It the pain right up at the illiac crest or down a little ways over the hip?

It doesn't seem to be low enough for bursitis as it sore more towards the iliac crest than down towards the trochantaric area. Also I feel no pain when pressing the nobbly area of the thigh bone.

Does it only hurt when you stretch or roll out? Try giving it a break. TFL or glute med is likely what is generating the pain. Take a little break from activity and see if it makes a difference. Likely its a bit of a strain and may just need some rest. Then progressively strengthen/stretch and resume activity.

Pain is coming and going. No pain at all when sitting though. Could it be nerve related?

Possibly. It doesn't seem to be behaving quite like nerve pain though from your description. If you've rested for a bit and it still hasn't gone away. It might be a good idea to get it checked out.

    Thanks Darren.

Now on my second physio so looking for other possibilities as theyboth seem a bit stumped. Could tight adductors cause soreness of the hip?

Tight adductors could be a contributor as this would throw the balance of the hips out and affect their functioning.

Did you get a scan then in the end?
At least now you know for definite what it is and can proceed with the appropriate treatment.
