Default Worried after visiting Sports Specialist

    Hi

I posted a while back about my injury. Basically a groin pain with stomach pain that I've now had for 6 months. The thread is below entitled Abdominal/Groin Pain.

Well I've now visited Atlas Sport Injury Specialist here in Birmingham and I'm fairly worried about the results.

The first session went well and after describing my symptons I was told it sounded quite a common injury. Basically it was a muscle that went from my groin to stomach, I forget the name, that had been strained. He used some electric pads on me to get the muscles working and did a light massage and left it at that. He told me to use an ice pack but not to do any streches

I then returned tonight, I hadn't really felt any better but thought I was being a bit negative. he looked through my notes again and I told him I was worried something more was wrong. He then said the amount of time I had the injury was strange. After using the electro pads again and streching me he said it was strange that I could do some of the stretches without any pain and he thought there may be more happening. He said there may be something wrong with my pelvis and needed to speak to his collegues as he wasn't sure. I asked what might happen and he said if they couldn't sort it out after 4 sessions they might send me elsewhere.

I'm really scared they can't help me....I do feel a bit better again today after the session and do not know what to think.....can anyone help or give me advice?

    Hi
Sorry to hear that your problem hasn't been resolved.
I think the muscle they were talking about initially is the Iliopsoas: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/muscles/iliopsoas.php

This muscle is often associated with groin/lower abdominal pain.
I would continue with your physio for now and see if there is further improvement over the next couple of sessions.

When they are talking about a 'problem with your pelvis', don't worry too much about this. They are probably referring to something like a twisted pelvis or muscle imbalance type problem, rather than anything more serious.

My advice is to just keep with it for now and try to positive about it and follow all the advice you are given from your therapist.

Thanks for your reply again Heidi

The muscle does feel better again today but when i tense it I do feel quite a sharp pain deep in the groin. It used to feel connected to my hip if that makes sense but it doesnt feel as bad as that at the minute.

He's told me to use ice packs and do lunges to see if that works. I think it was the fact that he didnt seem sure what it was thats really worried me.

I know i've had it for a long time but i did play on for ages with it so i'm hoping that the treatment along with the rest will ultimately help
