Default I fell on my bottom

    Hi,

Lastnight I took what seemed to be a harmless spill while playing hockey. I landed on what I can best describe as the upper part of my right glute.
I was able to finish the game and only experienced slight tenderness.

After the game, I started to experience more discomfort and realized that my upper outside right buttox had swollen severely. My condition deteriorated over several hours to the point where I could not sit in a seat or lean forward with my legs bent.

There is no bruising evident and aside from a hard swollen area there is no physical evidence...

Any thoughts on what I've done and possible treatment?

    Thanks.

Could be a contusion. This is like what happens when you get a 'dead leg' and is far more common in the thigh due to impacts etc. However it can occur in other places as it is due to the muscle being compressed against the bone.

It is important that you get some treatment for this condition, as muscle contusions if left untreated can cause a condition called myositis ossificans (a calcification within the muscle).

have a look at this page, although it does say mainly about contusions in the thigh the info is similar:

Hopefully you iced it following injury, you should try to gently stretch it and get some massage therapy.
