tail bone pain

One day I was fine, next day I could not sit down. Feels like I was sitting on a nail. Went to doctor, had an x-ray of tail bone. Nothing wrong. This was back in April. Still have pain , now I get pain on both sides of tail bone in butt area and lower back. Pain in bones under butt area because I have to use those bones to sit on to protect tail bone area.
Was told by Chiropractor that I tore a muscle attached to tail bone and could take a long time to heal. How long is a long time? Anyone else have this? I had lifted several heavy boxes during a move before this happened and continued to move boxes after the pain started.
