Post Inflammation of Pubic Symphysis

My previous message, titled Gilmore's Groin is a little redundant now as further consultation and an MRI have confirmed the real problem to be inflammation of the pubic symphysis and an over-use injury to the Gracilis adductor muscle on my left side.

Up until last week I was feeling like I was getting somewhere with treatment. Although far from pain free, the range of movements I could perform without pain were increasing and muscle strength was beginning to increase in the adductors.

This week however I seem to have gone back to square-one. I attempted a short, gentle bike ride as the total lack of exercise was getting me down. Putting on weight and losing muscle size/strength in my legs was concerning me. 24hrs after a 20min bike ride I was pretty much back to where I was before starting any treatment. The inflammation seems to have shot up and pain is back to original levels. Obviously the pelvis couldn't cope with the weight being directly applied via the bike saddle.

I've had this inflammation since around December now and I'm getting very fed up with it. It is limiting the treatment I can receive for other problems and just will not got away. I was hoping to be back playing football by July but this is looking extremely unlikely now.

I was wondering if there was anything that might speed up the removal of inflammation such as accupuncture maybe? Or do I have to just sit this out until it goes away on it's own? I am taking ibuprofen on the bad days but am wary of the long-term side effects.

Unhappy pubis symphysis

nick i totalyy knoow what you are going through. i have had this pain now for over 16 months, i to was hoping to get back to playing football but my consultant has told me to take up snooker. basically saying football is out.i dont know how old you are but i am 41 and have been playing football for over 30 years. i was told that i had a widening of the pelvis caused by its instability and am currently having a course of steroid injections into my pubis bone. i had one in april and the next on july 24th.before the first one i couldnt run without pain but can now do so. the injection is starting to wear off though so i am ready for my next. if this is not heal after 4 injections then i am looking at surgery to fuse the pelvis together to stop the instability. i have been told that this is the last resort as the op is a major one. let me know how you are getting on
