Chin-Ups

The chin-up exercise is quite challenging so it is adviseable to develop strength using machines such as an assisted chin-up machine and lat pull down machines first.

Teaching points

  • Grasp an overhead bar with a reverse grip as shown.
  • Pull yourself up until your chin is above the bar.  
  • Slowly lower yourself back down.

Variations & progressions

  • Perform with a wide grip i.e. hands wide apart on the bar, palms facing away from you.

  • Biceps Brachii.  
  • Brachialis.  
  • Brachioradialis.  

Alternative exercises

  • Lat pull down.  
  • Lat pull down using a resistance band.
  • Assisted chin-ups.
